DJ hoopjones [4:30 to 6:30-ish]

Working on a playlist theory of nines and dimes, DJ hoopjones focuses on serving tasty ear candy containing eclectic tunes ranging from the minimal wave movement over to jazzed out old school hip hop and italo disco gems. Your new favorite you never knew about just a song away.

DJ/VJ Marc Bayard [6:30-ish to close!]

New Orleans native DJ Marc Bayard grew up playing guitar in bands during the era of classic metal, glam, and punk rock. Working a tech job at Scratch DJ Academy in New York City — the DJ school founded by Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC — he found himself spinning New Orleans classics alongside old school punk, funk, Motown, and indie hits in Brooklyn bars. His DJ and VJ sets today may veer from R&B classics to goth-industrial to MTV hits to New Orleans bounce.

PAST EVENTS

Saturday, February  10th :: Bottle & Cellar Releases

[plus Pop-up Food: Boriqua Kitchen (12 to 6 pm)]

Bottle Release (limited number)

Peach Don’t Preach :: Golden Sour Ale :: [ABV: 5.2 % Hops: Willamette] A golden ale wood fermented in two red wine barrels of unknown origin with a different Belgian yeast in each barrel, along with multiple brett strains, lacto, and pedio. The beer remained in the barrel after fermentation for a little more than 6 months before getting blended together in a stainless steel tank, where it matured on peaches.

Note: This beer will also be on tap in the tasting room.

FROM THE CELLAR:

1st Anniversary :: Imperial Stout :: [ABV: 10.1 %, Hops: Chinook, CTZ, Cascade] A massive amount of eight different barley varieties were crammed into our teeny tiny mash tun, and we squeezed out every last drop of sugar to produce this amazingly refreshing, but strong ale.

Imperial Affliction :: Imperial Stout aged in Breckenridge bourbon barrels :: [ABV: 10.0 %, Hops: GR Merkur, UK Golding] The 2017 Imperial Affliction was aged in Breckenridge Bourbon barrels for three months, which resulted in a sweet caramel, bourbon, almond and pecan, and vanilla aroma and chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla, and charred oak flavor complexity. It has a great depth of character, yet balanced and extremely drinkable for an imperial stout.

Flyleaf :: Sour Ale aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels :: [Hops: GR Hallertauer Mittelfrueh, Chinook, Centennial] A month after we opened our doors, we took our Pale Fire Belgian-style recipe, and fermented it with an english ale yeast instead.  We then transferred it to cabernet sauvignon barrels and added lactobacillus and pediococcus to begin the souring process. Twelve months later, we bring this beer to you.

Sunday, February  11th :: 2nd Annual Beer & Brunch

We are starting a neighborhood tradition with our 2nd Annual Beer & Brunch event planned for Sunday, February 11th. This year we are doing a 10:30 am and 12:30 pm seating! Secure your spot by purchasing tickets in the tasting room or on Eventbrite.

https://www.eventbrite.com/o/novel-brewing-company-12731818205

NOTE: the tasting room will open back up the public at 3 pm and include a release of a NEW beer :: Pomegranate IPA!

Pomegranate IPA :: [ABV 6.3 %, Hops Mosaic, Waimea, Galaxy] This new-england style IPA used a healthy selection of Mosaic, Vic Secret, Waimea, and Galaxy hops, lactose for a milky body, and added pomegranate puree post fermentation. This blend of hop varieties created a blueberry, fruity, grassy, and slight tropical aromas and flavors and dash of pomegranate on the nose.

TUESDAY, February  13th :: Trivia Night

Music, Music, Music. It's our monthly trivia night and the theme is MUSIC! Trivia starts promptly at 7:30 pm and is always a fun time!

bookswap2018_web.png

We love books! If you do, too, come out for our annual BOOK SWAP event to share that love with others. We are doing it a bit different this year as you can bring in as many books as you like, and the ones that don't find a new home will go into our book stash that goes into our Little Lending Library.

The swap begins at 7 pm and the rules are you add your book(s) to the cart with an index card that has your name and a bit of why the book is a great read.

What's the best part? If someone takes your book home to read, you get a $1 off your next pint!

THURSDAY, February  15th :: Connect 4 Tournament and Wobo Fundraiser!

[plus Pop-up Food: Ippo Ramen (5 to 9 pm)]

connect4Flyer.png

Come in for a Connect 4 tournament and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) fundraiser! We are setting up a single elimination bracket for a Connect 4 Tournament in the tasting room.  The winner will win BRAGGING RIGHTS, as well as their name on our Connect 4 Tournament trophy that will be displayed in the tasting room.  And any donations during the event will go to our friends at WOBO!

Need more than Connect 4 to bring you in for the fundraiser? We are also releasing the Double Grainbow IPA!

Double Grainbow :: Double IPA :: [ABV 8.3 %, Hops: CTZ, Citra, Centennial] A V-2 rocket strike is all but imminent, so we doubled down on Ravity’s Grainbow in search of the elusive Double Grainbow. This bold 8.3% IPA explodes with piney and grapefruit hop flavors and aromas, and malt bulletproof body that fortifies your belly like a WWII bomb shelter.
